Among her works was the 1792 landmark, A Vindication of the Rights of Woman, in which she endeavored to show "that the first object of laudable ambition is to obtain a character as a human being, regardless of the distinction of sex." In 1792, Wollstonecraft died soon after giving birth to a daughter who, as Mary Shelley, would write Frankenstein.
