... 1917, Vladimir I. Lenin arrived at Finland Station in what was then and is now called St. Petersburg (during the Soviet period, the city was known as Leningrad). Lenin's return marked the beginning of the Bolshevik Revolution in Russia.
... 1948, U.S. President Harry S. Truman signed the Marshall Plan, allocating $5 billion in aid to 16 ravaged countries in post-World War II Europe.
