... 1968, civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated at the Lorraine Hotel (pictured, below) in Memphis, Tennessee, where he had traveled in support of a strike by African American sanitary workers. King had won the Nobel Peace Prize 4 years earlier.
...1979, despite international calls for clemency, Pakistan executed its ousted former Prime Minister, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
