... 1970, Anna Mae Hays (right) and Elizabeth P. Hoisington (left) became the 1st women to attain the general officer rank in the U.S. Army. Hays, a member of the Army Nurse Corps since 1942, and Hoisington, director of the Women's Army Corps since 1966, would retire a year later with the rank of Brigadier General.
... 1942 (65 years ago today), a lend-lease agreement designed to help the Soviets fight the Axis powers during World War II was signed by the United States and the Soviet Union.
