On July 15, ...

... 2002 (5 years ago today), John Walker Lindh pleaded guilty. The 21-year-old Californian (right), whom the media dubbed the "American Taliban" following his post-9/11 capture in Afghanistan's Mazar-e-Sharif prison, told a federal judge in Alexandria, Virginia, that he had served in the Taliban army and carried weapons. Had Walker Lindh proceeded to trial and been convicted of all charges against him, he would have faced multiple life sentences. Today he is in custody in the U.S. "Supermax" prison in Florence, Colorado; his attorneys and family periodically petition for reconsideration.
... 1952 (55 years ago today), U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Florida) was born in Havana, Cuba.
