... 2003 (5 years ago today), a NewsHour reporter declared "the dawn of a new era" in Georgia, a day after 200 guardsman turned against the sitting President, who'd threatened to declare a state of emergency after election irregularities in the Caucasus state whose flag is at right. ... 1898 (110 years ago today), diplomats and police officials from 21 European countries began the International Conference of Rome for the Social Defense Against Anarchists. The meeting ended a month later with a final protocol setting forth mechanisms for international law enforcement cooperation against anarchist organizations.
