(Taking context-optional note of thought-provoking quotes)

Until the power centers of the art world reach a 50-50 balance — and they’re not even close — a little networking can’t hurt.
-- Karen Rosenberg, voicing a statement applicable to more than the art world in her super New York Times review of a Manhattan exhibition entitled "A Parallel Presence: National Association of Women Artists, 1889-2009." Featured are works by members of "the oldest active American women’s art organization," among them the painting at right by Louise Cox. (credit)

Interesting. The Centre Pompidou (which Obama visited briefly in Paris) has just opened a show of 500 works by 200 women artists of the 20th and 21st centuries to "illustrate their role in the history of art." Runs through May 24, 2010.
