... 1944 (65 years ago today), having met in Conversations since August at a Washington, D.C., mansion known as Dumbarton Oaks (left), delegates issued Proposals for the Establishment of a General International Organization. This framework included the following:

With a view to the creation of conditions of stability and well-being which are necessary for peaceful and friendly relations among nations, the Organization should facilitate solutions of international economic, social and other humanitarian problems and promote respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms.

The organization would be established as the United Nations after the end of World War II. (photo credit)
