On December 15

On this day in ...

... 1961, a court in Israel found Adolf Eichmann guilty on all 15 counts of crimes against humanity, crimes against the Jewish people, and war crimes, stemming from his role as a Nazi official during the Holocaust. The court sentenced Eichmann, at center in the photo at left, to the death penalty. Our prior posts on the case are here and here and here.

... 1942, Kathleen Blanco was born in New Iberia, Louisiana. She served as her state's 1st woman governor from 2004-2008; her record tarnished by the debacle of Hurricane Katrina, Blanco, a Democrat, chose not to run for re-election.
