On December 6

On this day in ...
... 1989 (20 years ago today), a young man committed the "tragedy now known as The Montreal Massacre." Confronting 60 students in an engineering class, he separated the men from the women, screamed, "J'haïs les féministes." -- that is -- "I hate feminists." He then began shooting. In the end 14 women died and 27 more were wounded. By act of Parliament in 1991, this day is now marked throughout Canada as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
