On July 1

On this day in ...
... 2010, the Council of Europe Convention on the Protection of Children against Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Abuse entered into force fewer than 3 years after it had been signed in Lanzarote, the easternmost Canary Island. To date the treaty, the 1st to call for measures to prevent and criminalize the commission of "various forms of sexual abuse of children..., including such abuse committed in the home or family, with the use of force, coercion or threat," has 13 states parties.
