
... 1987, in Guatemala City, the presidents of 5 Central American countries -- Costa Rica, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Nicaragua -- signed the Esquipulas II Accord. The signing was part of a multiyear initiative designed to ease military conflict in the region.
