On December 12

On this day in ...
... 2001 (10 years ago today), the U.N. General Assembly adopted Resolution 56/83 , containing as an annex the Articles on Responsibility of States for Internationally Wrongful Acts that had been adopted earlier in the year at a session of the International Law Commission. The version produced by the Commission incorporated commentaries to the draft. (For details, see articles in this American Journal of International Law symposium.) Although not formalized into a binding treaty, since their adoption the Articles have served as a framework for analysis of state's duties under international law.
