On January 7

On this day in ...
... 1943, 2 dozen welders posed for the picture at left, which commemorates the award given for making Liberty Ships faster than any other team. The previous month the workers, all women, had completed a 2-month course on how to manufacture warships, and thus begun work at the Delta Shipbuilding Company, located on the Industrial Canal in New Orleans, Louisiana. (photo credit) They were among the many World War II-era workers collectively dubbed "Rosie the Riveter."

(Prior January 7 posts are here, here, here, and here.)
