Delighted to announce that the 2012 Midyear Meeting and Research Forum of the American Society of International Law will be held next year in my new home state, Georgia.
Please save the 3d weekend in October to come and visit!
Plans are shaping up already:
► On Friday, October 19, 2012, a program focused on private international law and arbitration will take place in Atlanta.
► Then the meeting will move northeast to the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, for events on Saturday, October 20, and possibly Sunday, October 21. These will include: the semiannual meeting of the ASIL Executive Council; a keynote speaker and conversation; a career fair; a reception and a conference dinner; and a formative session of a regional project, ASIL-Southeast.
A key feature will be the 2d annual Research Forum, at which scholars from around the world will take part in roundtable presentations and discussions of their work. Be on the lookout for the call for papers, on all aspects of international law.
Co-chairing the Research Forum again this year will be George Washington University Law Professor Laura Dickinson, an IntLawGrrls contributor; joining her will be Georgia Law Professor Timothy L. Meyer. The Forum's committee, as well as other committees related to the event, are still in formation and will be announced in due course.
With the leadership of ASIL Executive Director Elizabeth Andersen and ASIL President-Elect Donald Francis Donovan, international law experts from throughout the Southeast are getting involved in the planning of this gathering in our region. Yours truly is honored to serve as overall co-chair, along with a fellow former ASIL vice president, Charles A. Hunnicutt, who's Senior Counsel at Troutman Sanders LLP in Washington, D.C. and a Georgia Law alum who was Editor-in-Chief of the Georgia Journal of International & Comparative Law.
Charlie also serves as chair of the Advisory Board of Georgia Law's Dean Rusk Center for International Law & Policy (left). (photo credit) The namesake of the Center -- which will mark its 35th anniversary in 2012 -- is Dean Rusk, whose career of public service included terms as Secretary of State and Honorary President of the American Society of International Law. Georgia Law also was home to Louis B. Sohn, 1st holder of the Emily and Ernest Woodruff Chair in International Law and an ASIL President.
Look forward to hosting you here next fall!
