On this day in ...... 1722 (290 years ago today), in the French settlement of Quebec in what is now Canada, "The Council of New France makes abandoning children a death penalty offence; parish Priests are asked to publicize the law every few months." (credit for 1722 print) That the prohibition was deemed necessary suggests much about society then and there.
