On this day in ...
... 1975, during a royal audience in Riyadh, the man at right, who had ruled Saudi Arabia since 1964, King Faisal, succumbed to gunshot wounds suffered when a nephew "pulled out a pistol and shot" the king 3 times at point-blank range. (photo credit) Within months, the nephew would be convicted of regicide and executed via beheading in a public square.
