
... 1917 (95 years ago today), the 1st-ever jazz record was released on the market. It had been recorded days earlier by a group from New Orleans, Louisiana, the Original Dixieland Jass Band. The B-side offering, a fox trot called "Livery Stable Blue" (audio here), became a huge hit -- "possibly the first popular music recording to sell a million copies." (photo credit)
