... 1867, the Exposition universelle, or World Expo, opened at Paris' Champs de Mars. (photo credit) The fair, which ran until October 31, 1867, gave the French ruler, Napoleon III, an "opportunity to show Paris to all foreign guests" – 7 million persons visited.
