On August 17

On this day in ...
... 1853, the 1st veterinary school in North America was founded by decree of Mexico's President Antonio López de Santa Anna. It operated for a number of years, with a few gaps, graduating 60 persons by 1914. The Mexican school beat Canada's 1st, in Guelph, by a decade, and the 1st in the United States, at Cornell, by at least 2 decades.
Today is el Día del Médico Veterinario Zootecnista in Mexico.

(Prior August 17 posts are here, here, here, here, and here.)
