... 1952 (60 years ago today), by a vote of 47 to 10, the UN General Assembly resolved that Eritrea should join in federation with its neighbor, Ethiopia. The move followed lobbying by Ethiopia, a landlocked country, and so the British mandate ended in this month. War in the would lead to Eritrea's independence and establishment of a claims commission. Refugee camps remain. (IntLawGrrls prior posts available here.) As recently as this past March, there were reports on continued unrest between the 2 countries.
