New Deputy Prosecutor @ ICC

Jing Geng reports that earlier today at The Hague, the International Criminal Court Assembly of States Parties elected James Stewart of Canada the new ICC Deputy Prosecutor. Stewart won in the 5th round of voting, after the other candidates had withdrawn their names.
Here's what we wrote of the new second-in-command when his nomination was made public a few months ago:

'Since 2007 General Counsel for the Crown Law Office-Criminal, at Canada's Ministry of the Attorney General. Previously, Stewart served as: Senior Appeals Counsel and then Chief of the Appeals and Legal Advisory Division for the Office of the Prosecutor at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, where he led early cases like Akayesu. In additional, in 2 separate stints, he was Chief of the Prosecutions Division, and as Chief of Prosecutions at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.'

Stewart now assumes the post vacated when its previous holder, Fatou Bensouda, was sworn in as Prosecutor last June.
